Malaysia Visa Exemption for Indian Nationals Extended Until December 2026

2024/12/21

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 21 — The Malaysian government has announced the extension of the visa exemption for Indian nationals, which was originally set to expire on December 31 this year. The new extension will allow Indian citizens to travel visa-free to Malaysia until December 31, 2026.

Datuk Awang Alik Jeman, Secretary-General of the Home Ministry, stated that this extension is in line with Malaysia's upcoming role as ASEAN Chair in 2025 and the preparations for Visit Malaysia Year 2026.

“The government had previously granted a similar extension for Chinese nationals, which also lasts until December 31, 2026,” he added in a statement last night.

This visa exemption, introduced on December 1, 2023, is part of Malaysia's Visa Liberalisation Plan aimed at boosting the nation's economy while maintaining strong national security.

The exemption allows Indian and Chinese citizens to visit Malaysia without a visa for up to 30 days, encouraging more tourism and business exchanges.
